DAWN, HER DAD AND THE TRACTOR

THEATRICAL & BROADCAST CAMPAIGN PUBLICITY

We partnered with Picture Plant for the theatrical premiere of actor-turned writer/director Shelley Thompson's feature film Dawn, Her Dad & the Tractor on March at Cineplex theatres across the country and for its launch on CRAVE.

Dawn, Her Dad & the Tractor is a beautifully crafted film about a transgender woman who returns to her childhood home (a dairy farm) in the Annapolis Valley to attend her mother’s funeral. There, family, friends and community members are compelled to confront their feelings about Dawn. The family film has been heralded as a story about connection, home and acceptance. The award-winning film stars Youtuber and actress Maya V. Henry as Dawn and Trailer Park Boys' Robb Wells plays her father John Andrew in a notably different role for the actor.

The film was a sell-out at it's Inside Out premiere and sold out screenings on its festival run with its UK debut at the prestigious BFI Flare Festival in London. The film is written and directed by Shelley Thompson (Trailer Park Boys, Labyrinth) who is a champion of LGBTQ+ issues and parent to Singer/Songwriter T. Thomason. The film was one of twelve projects invited to the NY Writers Lab (supported by Meryl Streep/Nicole Kidman)

We worked alongside producer Terry Greenlaw, writer/director Shelley Thompson and the cast including Robb Wells and Maya V. Henry to coordinate reviews, interviews and promotion for this important family film.

Working alongside the Dawn team we started with an exclusive trailer drop and continued to secure interviews and reviews for the launch including national coverage in The Calgary Herald, National Post and interviews on The Social, CBC’s q, Global, CTV, The Marilyn Denis Show, CP24 and more.

It’s a beautiful story, all quirky fun one moment and quietly graceful the next…From its locally sourced soundtrack and gorgeous scenery to its winning characters, this is a sweet bit of Canadiana with a lovely message of tolerance.

Synopsis

Set on a Nova Scotia dairy farm, John Andrew has just lost his wife Miranda to cancer. When a young woman with a startling resemblance to Miranda appears on his porch, an odyssey towards understanding begins. John Andrew’s estranged son Donald is now Dawn, and she’s come home to mourn her mother and keep her promise to repair her relationship with her Dad.Restoring the tractor her mother learned to drive on becomes a focus for the mechanically minded Dawn. John Andrew begins to realize that if he’s to reclaim this relationship, he has to come out with Dawn, and what better setting than the community tractor trials — an event Miranda created as a tireless village volunteer — where he proudly cheers for his daughter Dawn, as she enters the arena at the wheel of the lovingly restored tractor.
