The Opportunity

We worked alongside writer/director, Thirza Cuthand and actress/producer Sera-Lys McArthur to promote the showing of their IndigiQueer thriller, kwêskosîw (She Whistles) at both the 2021 Fantasia Film Festival and Outfest LA. The award-winning short film, which stars Sera-Lys McArthur and Aidan Devine delves into the missing & murdered Indigenous women and girls epidemic and the increased violence and discrimination that Indigenous women face. The story follows Stephanie (McArthur) a 2-Spirit nêhiyaw (Plains Cree) woman who discovers a deadly supernatural power that may help her solve the mystery of her mother’s disappearance. kwêskosîw (She Whistles) incorporates the mysterious powers of the northern lights; it has been said that if one whistles at the northern lights, the ancestors will come and take you away.

The Results

We were thrilled to coordinate numerous online and onscreen interviews for both Sera-Lys McArthur and Thirza Cuthand. We secured pieces in Toronto Star, Awesome Friday, Hollywood North Magazine, What's On Queer BC, APTN National News, and many more!

“This collaborative duo has created a story that is universal amongst all women that have ever felt marginalized, threatened, abused or vulnerable because of race, culture or status. The truth is out there and more of those stories are being told through film. The future awaits more Indigenous and LGBTQ films that can impact society and its trajectory.”
