Sponsor + Mentor + Publicity Consultants

Pender PR was engaged by Women in Animation Vancouver and Women in View to launch the inaugural “Five in Focus Program”; an innovative program designed to advance gender equity in the animation industry.

We were invited to join the team as sponsors alongside Telefilm Canada, Creative BC, Microsoft, Telus Storyhive and a selection of companies dedicated to supporting the advancement of women in the animation industry.

As sponsors we were dedicated to seeing the team succeed and lent hours to mentorship and used our expertise in publicity, social media and marketing to create and implement a marketing and press launch strategy when it came time to release the film the cohort had created. We also trained the team in social media best practices and obtained local press for the world premiere of the program.

We achieved great success in the media, which resulted in a sold out panel, screening and Q&A at the SPARK International Film Festival.

Through “Five in Focus Program” , five women were nominated who represent key creative positions in animation—ones in which women have been traditionally underrepresented. The year long program provided financing to write, develop and produce an animated short film called The Butterfly Affect.

We were brought onto the team through our sponsorship with “Five in Focus” to do publicity and community outreach for the premiere. We worked as advisors to director Stephanie Blakey, writer Jen Davreux, producer Amanda Konkin, animation director Kaitlin Sutherland, and art director Maisha Moore.

The Butterfly Affect, is a beautiful short film with a great message of inclusion and acceptance created by five brilliant artists and featured in publications including Georgia Straight, ECAD News and Animation Magazine.
